Remnly

Privacy Policy Last updated: May 2026

Overview

Remnly is a private daily journal. Your entries are your own. This policy explains honestly what data we collect, how it is used, and which third-party services touch your information.

What we collect

Account information When you create an account, we collect your email address and first name. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive a verified email address from those services. No password is ever created or stored by Remnly.

Journal entries The text and voice recordings you add to Remnly are stored privately in our database. They are never visible to other users. They are never sold. They are never used to train AI models.

Voice recordings When you record a voice entry, the audio is transmitted to OpenAI’s Whisper service for transcription. The transcribed text is saved to your journal. The audio itself is not stored by Remnly after transcription is complete.

Subscription information If you purchase a subscription, your transaction is processed by Apple. We never see or store your payment card details. We store your subscription status, which tier you are on and when it expires, to determine which features you can access.

Device and usage data For users on the free tier, our advertising partner Google AdMob collects device identifiers and usage signals to serve banner advertisements. This is standard for ad-supported apps. Paid subscribers do not see ads and their data is not shared with AdMob.

How we use your data

We use your account information to identify you and personalise your experience, including using your first name in notifications and AI-generated recaps.

We use your journal entries solely to generate your weekly, monthly, and annual recaps. To do this, entries are sent to OpenAI’s API. OpenAI’s own privacy policy and data retention policies apply to content processed through their API. We encourage you to review their policy at openai.com/privacy.

We use your subscription status to determine which features are available to you.

We use aggregated, non-identifiable usage data to understand how the app is being used and to improve it.

Third-party services

Remnly uses the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy practices which we encourage you to review.

Clerk manages user authentication, email verification, and sign-in with Apple and Google. Clerk is SOC 2 Type II certified. Privacy policy at clerk.com/privacy.

OpenAI processes voice recordings for transcription and journal entries for recap generation. Privacy policy at openai.com/privacy.

RevenueCat manages subscription status and transaction history. Privacy policy at revenuecat.com/privacy.

Google AdMob serves banner advertisements to free-tier users. AdMob collects device identifiers and behavioural signals for ad targeting. Paid subscribers are not subject to AdMob data collection. Privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.

Apple processes all in-app purchases and subscription billing. Privacy policy at apple.com/privacy.

Data retention

Your journal entries and account information are retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all of your data including every journal entry, recap, and profile information is permanently deleted from our systems. You can delete your account at any time from the Settings screen inside the app.

Your rights

You have the right to access the data we hold about you, to correct inaccurate information, and to request deletion of your account and all associated data. To exercise any of these rights, delete your account from the Settings screen or contact us at the email address below.

If you are located in the European Union, you have additional rights under the GDPR including the right to data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

Children

Remnly is not directed at children under the age of 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy we will notify you through the app or by email before the changes take effect. The date at the top of this policy reflects when it was last updated.
